After residing in Yavne, following the Hadrianic persecutions, the Sanhedrin settled in Usha. The seat was then moved to Shfaram and later to Beit Shearim. During the last days of Rabbi Yehuda haNassi, it moved to Tzippori (or Sepphoris). The Sanhedrin was finally moved to Tiberias, where it remained until its dissolution.
