Eusebius of Caesarea
In his book Martyrs of Palestine, written in 311 CE, the church historian and Bishop of Caesarea, Eusebius, recounts the persecution of Christians in Caesarea under the pagan Roman Emperor Diocletian. In the book, Eusebius mentions a strong Jewish population in Lod:
“There is a large city in the land of Palestine, teeming with population, of which all the inhabitants were Jews. It is called in the Aramaic tongue Lod…”
