Hoping to be permitted to worship freely once the Byzantine oppression had been removed, the Jews aided the Persian invasion. Byzantine Jerusalem fell in 614 CE to the Persian advance under the Sasanian King Khosrow II. They were granted the administration of Jerusalem for an interlude of three years.

 

Euthychius, the Patriarch of Alexandria, wrote: The Persian Commander went to Damascus and destroyed the Land, and the Jews from Tiberias, Hebron, Nazareth and Tyre gathered together to help the Persians in destroying the Gentiles... and when Damascus was free form the Byzantine armies...the Jews of Jerusalem, Hebron, Tiberias, Damascus and Cyprus came together until they numbered 20,000...

Byzantine Jerusalem fell in 614 CE to the Persian advance under the Sasanian King Khosrow II.
